cursed images
Inexplicably wrong pictures
Cursed images are photographs that feel inexplicably unsettling or wrong—not outright horrifying, but off in ways difficult to articulate.
The lighting is strange, the composition is awkward, or something in the frame doesn't belong.
The term emerged from internet culture to describe images that provoke discomfort rather than fear: Why would anyone take this photo?
A cursed image of a toilet in a kitchen or a doll with too many eyes succeeds by being inexplicable rather than graphic.
