hybridity

State of mixture

Hybridity is the state or quality of being hybrid—mixed, blended, or of combined origin.

The term appears most often in academic and cultural criticism, where it describes the mixing of cultures, identities, or traditions: postcolonial hybridity, cultural hybridity.

Unlike the concrete noun hybrid, hybridity emphasizes the abstract condition of mixture itself rather than any particular mixed thing.
