court historian
Palace narrative keeper
A court historian is an official chronicler serving a ruler or regime, tasked with recording events in ways favorable to their patron.
The term is now mainly pejorative, describing any writer or scholar who produces sanitized or flattering accounts rather than honest history: The biography reads like it was written by a court historian.
