state propaganda
Government-sponsored messaging
State propaganda is information spread by a government to shape public opinion in its favor.
It may involve selective presentation of facts, outright falsehoods, or emotional appeals designed to build support for policies, demonize opponents, or maintain power.
The term carries inherent criticism—governments don't call their own messaging propaganda: The regime's state propaganda portrayed protesters as foreign agents.
Distinct from ordinary political communication by its systematic nature and disregard for truth.
