corrugations

Wavy surface patterns

Corrugations are parallel ridges and grooves, like those on cardboard boxes or sheet metal roofing.

The pattern adds strength and flexibility to materials that would otherwise be flat and fragile.

Corrugations also form naturally—on sandy beaches shaped by waves, or on dirt roads worn by traffic: The truck bounced over the corrugations.
