A copyboy is an errand runner in a newspaper office, carrying copy between reporters and editors, fetching coffee, and performing other menial tasks.
The role was an entry point into journalism, often filled by young men hoping to become reporters.
The position has largely disappeared with digital newsrooms: He started as a copyboy and worked his way up to editor.
