cooldowns

Post-exercise wind-downs

Cooldowns are periods of waiting before something can be used again.

In video games, abilities or items often have cooldowns—after casting a spell, you must wait before casting it again: The healing skill has a thirty-second cooldown.

In exercise, a cooldown is a period of lighter activity after intense exertion, allowing heart rate and breathing to return to normal.

The singular cooldown works as both noun and modifier: cooldown period, cooldown timer.
