contrail
Airplane's white wake
A contrail is the white streak left in the sky by aircraft at high altitude.
Short for condensation trail—hot exhaust meets cold air, water vapor condenses and freezes into ice crystals.
Contrails may dissipate quickly or linger for hours depending on atmospheric conditions: The sky was crisscrossed with contrails.
