conserved
Saved from loss
Conserved describes something that has been kept, preserved, or protected from loss or change.
In science, particularly biology, conserved refers to features—genes, proteins, or structures—that have remained largely unchanged across species or over evolutionary time because they serve essential functions: The gene sequence is highly conserved across mammals.
In physics, quantities like energy or momentum are conserved when they remain constant in a closed system.
More generally, conserved suggests careful stewardship: Resources were conserved for future generations.
