confidence vote
Parliamentary trust test
A confidence vote is a parliamentary vote that determines whether the current government will remain in power.
If the government loses a confidence vote (that is, if it fails to win the majority), it must resign.
In many parliamentary systems, a confidence vote is required after a general election to formally establish the government.
In some systems, a confidence vote may be called at any time to test the strength of the government.
