recall vote
Oust-the-official ballot
A recall vote is an election to remove an official from office before their term ends.
Unlike impeachment, which is handled by a legislature, recalls let voters directly decide whether to oust someone: The governor survived the recall vote.
Recall procedures vary by jurisdiction; some require the recalled official to face challengers on the same ballot.
