cold currents
Cool ocean streams
Cold currents are flows of water in oceans or other bodies that move from polar regions toward the equator, carrying temperatures lower than surrounding waters.
They affect climate by cooling coastal areas: The cold current off California keeps summers mild.
The term also applies to air: A cold current swept through the open window.
