coachwhip

Slender American serpent

A coachwhip is a long, slender North American snake whose scales create a pattern resembling a braided leather whip.

Coachwhips are fast-moving and nonvenomous, found in open terrain from the southern United States into Mexico.

The name also applies to the actual braided whip used by coach drivers.
