co-guardian

Joint legal caretaker

A co-guardian is someone who shares legal guardianship of another person—typically a minor or incapacitated adult—with one or more other guardians.

Courts may appoint co-guardians when responsibilities are best divided, or when both parents serve jointly: The divorced couple remained co-guardians of their children.

The arrangement requires coordination on decisions about care, education, and welfare.
