shared ownership
Holding something together
Shared ownership is a housing arrangement in which a buyer purchases a portion of a property—typically 25 to 75 percent—and pays rent on the remainder, usually to a housing association.
It allows people to enter the property market who couldn't otherwise afford full ownership: We bought our flat through shared ownership.
The buyer can often increase their stake over time, a process called staircasing.
