cloche

Snug twenties hat

A cloche is a close-fitting, bell-shaped women's hat, popular in the 1920s, that hugs the head and sits low on the forehead: She wore a felt cloche pulled down over her bobbed hair.

The word comes from the French for bell, which also gives us the gardening sense—a bell-shaped glass or plastic cover placed over plants to protect them from frost or hasten growth.
