class war

Workers versus owners

Class war is conflict between social classes, especially between workers and the wealthy or powerful.

The term appears in political discourse, often associated with Marxist analysis of capitalist society: Critics accused the senator of waging class war against the rich.

Class warfare is synonymous.

The phrase can be used accusatorially by either side—workers may call for class war against exploitation, while elites may dismiss progressive taxation as class warfare.
