classless society

Everyone ranks equally

A classless society is one in which social and economic distinctions between groups have been eliminated, so that no hierarchy based on wealth, birth, or occupation exists.

The term is most associated with Marxist theory, which envisions such a society as the end goal of communist revolution—a state where the means of production are collectively owned and class struggle has been resolved.

Critics argue that truly classless societies have never been achieved in practice, while proponents see them as an ideal worth pursuing.
