common cup
Communal drinking container
A common cup is a single drinking vessel shared among multiple people, especially the chalice used in Christian communion services from which congregants drink wine.
The term also appears in discussions of hygiene: The common cup fell out of favor during the tuberculosis epidemic.
Some churches now offer individual cups as an alternative.
