chest plate
Front body shield
A chest plate is armor covering the front of the torso, protecting the chest and vital organs.
In medieval armor, it formed the front half of a cuirass.
The term extends to protective gear in modern contexts—bulletproof vests, athletic equipment, or harnesses: The catcher adjusted his chest plate before the pitch.
Also spelled as one word: chestplate.
