cherry pit
Red fruit's core
The cherry pit is the hard seed at the center of a cherry, surrounded by the edible fruit.
Like other stone fruit pits, it contains compounds that can release cyanide if crushed and consumed in quantity—though swallowing one whole is harmless.
Cherry pit spitting is a competitive sport at some summer festivals.
