cathode-ray tubes
Old television technology
Cathode-ray tubes are vacuum tubes that produce images by firing electron beams at a phosphorescent screen.
They were the dominant display technology for televisions and computer monitors throughout the twentieth century, producing the characteristic bulky, deep-bodied screens.
CRTs have been largely replaced by flat-panel displays, though some persist in specialized applications and among retro gaming enthusiasts who prefer their visual qualities.
