cardioverter

Rhythm restoration device

A cardioverter is a medical device that delivers electrical shocks to the heart to restore normal rhythm.

Most commonly encountered as an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), a small device placed in the chest that monitors heartbeat and automatically delivers shocks when it detects dangerous arrhythmias.

External cardioverters are used in hospitals for controlled cardioversion procedures.
