cane syrup
Southern pancake topping
Cane syrup is a thick, amber sweetener made by boiling down sugarcane juice.
Unlike molasses, which is a byproduct of sugar refining, cane syrup comes from the direct reduction of cane juice before crystallization.
It has a milder, more buttery flavor than molasses and is traditional in Southern American cooking, especially on biscuits and in pecan pie.
