lamas
Himalayan spiritual guides
Lamas is the plural of lama, a Tibetan Buddhist spiritual teacher or monk.
The Dalai Lama is the most widely known.
The word is unrelated to llama, the South American animal, though the spellings cause frequent confusion: The temple was home to several lamas who had studied for decades.
