buckboards
Open frontier wagons
A buckboard is a simple four-wheeled horse-drawn wagon with a flat wooden platform instead of a body.
The platform flexes over rough ground, giving a springy ride.
Common in 19th-century America for light hauling and transportation, buckboards appear frequently in Western fiction: They loaded supplies onto the buckboard and headed for town.
