landaus
Horse-drawn convertible coaches
Landaus is the plural of landau, a type of four-wheeled horse-drawn carriage with a convertible top that folds down in two sections.
Named after the German city where they were first made, these elegant vehicles were popular among aristocracy in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The term later extended to certain automobile body styles featuring similar folding tops.
The royal procession included several open landaus.
