broker-dealer

Trades for others

A broker-dealer is a financial firm or individual licensed to both execute securities transactions for clients (the broker function) and trade securities for its own account (the dealer function).

Most investment firms operate as broker-dealers, buying and selling stocks, bonds, and other securities: The SEC fined the broker-dealer for failing to disclose conflicts of interest.
