briquetting

Making compact blocks

Briquetting is the process of compressing loose material into compact blocks called briquettes.

Coal dust, sawdust, charcoal, or agricultural waste gets pressed into uniform shapes for easier handling, storage, and burning: The plant uses briquetting to turn wood chips into fuel pellets.

The process often requires a binding agent to hold the compressed material together.
