brake check
Sudden deceleration tactic
A brake check is the act of suddenly braking in front of another vehicle, typically to intimidate a tailgater or provoke a collision for insurance fraud.
The move is dangerous and often illegal: He brake-checked me on the highway and I nearly rear-ended him.
The term also refers to a legitimate inspection of brake function: The mechanic did a quick brake check.
