staged accident
Fraudulent collision scheme
A staged accident is a collision or incident deliberately caused or fabricated to file fraudulent insurance claims.
Participants may slam on brakes suddenly to cause a rear-end collision, fake injuries, or collude with corrupt medical providers and lawyers.
The term also applies to any accident arranged to appear genuine: Investigators suspected the car fire was a staged accident to collect on the policy.
