bouncing bomb

Dam-busting munition

A bouncing bomb is a weapon designed to skip across water before striking its target, developed by the British in World War II to destroy German dams.

The bombs were dropped from low-flying aircraft, bouncing over torpedo nets and other defenses before sinking against dam walls and detonating.

The famous Dambusters raid of 1943 used this technology.
