borer
Wood-eating insect
A borer is something that bores holes—typically an insect whose larvae tunnel through wood, fruit, or other plant material: The emerald ash borer has devastated forests across North America.
The term also applies to tools designed for boring holes, though drill has largely displaced this sense.
