bookends

Volume support pair

Bookends are L-shaped supports placed at either end of a row of books to keep them upright on a shelf.

By extension, bookends refers to a matching pair of things that frame something between them: The two home runs were bookends to an otherwise forgettable game.

As a verb, to bookend is to bracket or frame: Two guitar solos bookend the album.
