prefaces

Books' introductory sections

Prefaces is the plural of preface, an introductory section at the beginning of a book where the author explains the work's purpose, scope, or origins: The prefaces to his novels reveal more about his thinking than the novels themselves.

To preface something is to introduce it with preliminary remarks: She prefaced her criticism with a compliment.
