board feet
Timber volume measure
Board feet is a unit of lumber volume equal to a piece one foot long, one foot wide, and one inch thick—144 cubic inches.
The measure accounts for the rough-sawn dimensions before planing, so finished lumber contains less wood than its board-foot measurement suggests.
We'll need about two hundred board feet of oak for the project.
