blue check
Platform identity badge
A blue check is a verification badge on social media platforms, originally indicating that an account's identity had been confirmed as authentic—typically for public figures, celebrities, and journalists.
The term comes from the small blue checkmark displayed next to verified usernames.
Since some platforms began selling verification, blue check has acquired a mildly derisive connotation, suggesting someone who takes their online status too seriously or holds predictable mainstream opinions: What a blue-check take.
