settings icon
Configuration menu shortcut
A settings icon is a small graphic representing access to configuration options, almost always depicted as a gear or cogwheel.
The gear image suggests machinery you can adjust.
Clicking or tapping it opens menus for customizing preferences: I couldn't find the dark mode option until I noticed the settings icon in the corner.
