block quotes
Set-apart text passages
Block quotes are passages of text set apart from the surrounding prose, typically indented or otherwise visually distinguished.
They indicate material quoted from another source, usually longer excerpts that would be unwieldy within quotation marks: The essay opened with a block quote from Thoreau.
In digital contexts, block quotes often appear with a vertical line along the left margin.
