batters' boxes

Marked hitting zones

The batters' boxes are the two rectangular areas on either side of home plate where a batter must stand when at bat in baseball or softball—one for right-handed batters, one for left-handed.

The lines marking the box are part of the box itself: The umpire warned him to keep both feet inside the batter's box.
