foul lines
Fair territory edges
Foul lines are the two straight lines extending from home plate through first and third base to the outfield fence in baseball, marking the boundary between fair and foul territory.
A ball landing outside these lines is foul; inside is fair.
The term extends to basketball, where foul lines mark where free throws are taken: He stepped to the foul line with two shots.
