basswoods
Soft wood trees
Basswoods is the plural of basswood, a North American linden tree with soft, light wood and fragrant yellowish flowers.
The wood is prized for carving and woodworking because it's easy to cut and doesn't split: The forest was thick with basswoods and maples.
Also called American linden.
