basement dweller

Lives downstairs, underground

A basement dweller is someone who lives in their parents' basement well into adulthood, stereotypically unemployed, socially isolated, and spending excessive time online or gaming.

The term is almost always disparaging, implying arrested development and failure to launch into independent adult life: The comment section was full of basement dwellers arguing about video games.

Often used as an insult toward people perceived as having no life outside the internet.
