base unit
Fundamental measurement standard
A base unit is a fundamental unit of measurement from which other units are derived.
In the International System of Units (SI), seven base units—including the meter, kilogram, and second—form the foundation for all measurement.
More loosely, a base unit is the standard configuration before additions or upgrades: The base unit costs $299; accessories are extra.
