backer board

Backer board is a rigid panel material used as a substrate beneath tile, stone, or other finish surfaces, particularly in wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens.

Made from cement, fiber cement, or foam, it provides a stable, moisture-resistant foundation that prevents tiles from cracking and inhibits mold growth.

We installed cement backer board before tiling the shower walls.

Unlike drywall, backer board won't deteriorate when exposed to water.
