back to basics
Return to essentials
Back to basics describes a return to fundamental principles or methods after complexity, innovation, or drift has obscured them.
The phrase often signals stripping away what's unnecessary: The team went back to basics after losing three straight games.
It appears in education reform, business strategy, and personal improvement contexts, suggesting that simpler, proven approaches have been neglected.
