asbestosis
Mineral fiber disease
Asbestosis is a chronic lung disease caused by inhaling asbestos fibers.
The microscopic fibers scar lung tissue, causing progressive shortness of breath, coughing, and reduced lung function.
The condition typically develops after years of occupational exposure—in construction, shipbuilding, or mining.
Asbestosis is incurable and increases the risk of lung cancer and mesothelioma.
