natural death
Death without intervention
Natural death is death from illness, age, or internal bodily failure—as opposed to death by accident, violence, suicide, or execution.
The phrase appears often in legal and medical contexts to distinguish causes: The coroner ruled it a natural death.
To die a natural death can also describe ideas or institutions fading away on their own: The proposal died a natural death when funding ran out.
