arousals
States of waking
Arousals are instances of being awakened or stimulated.
In sleep medicine, arousals are brief interruptions that shift the brain toward wakefulness without fully waking the sleeper: The sleep study recorded thirty arousals per hour.
Sexual arousals are instances of becoming physically excited.
The word covers any stirring from dormancy to alertness.
