annular eclipse

Sun's bright halo

An annular eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly in front of the Sun but appears too small to cover it completely, leaving a bright ring of sunlight visible around the Moon's dark silhouette.

This "ring of fire" effect happens because the Moon is near the far point of its elliptical orbit.

We drove six hours to see the annular eclipse.
